The secret to a great chip starts with the right potato. At The Real Fresh Chip Company, we only use varieties that deliver top results in texture, flavour and consistency.
Maris Piper is a standout choice. It has a high starch content and low moisture, which means you get that crisp outer layer and soft, fluffy centre that makes a chip truly satisfying. This variety also fries evenly, helping to keep every portion consistent.
King Edward potatoes are another firm favourite in our production. Known for their light, floury texture, they absorb just the right amount of oil during frying. The result is a golden, crunchy outside and a smooth, creamy interior that customers love.
We also adapt with the seasons. While we rely heavily on British-grown potatoes, there are times when we supplement with specially selected imports to maintain the same level of quality year-round. It’s all about choosing the best possible spuds, wherever they’re grown.
We’ve been doing this long enough to know that not all potatoes are created equal. Some varieties look the part but don’t hold up in the fryer. Others might cook well but lack flavour. That’s why we’re so selective — because we know what makes a great chip, and we won’t settle for anything less.
